Flashing Lights

Transient floaters that do not interfere with vision may be normal.

New floaters of sudden onset in one eye especially if accompanied by flashing lights usually indicate a posterior vitreous detachment, and may lead on to retinal detachment.

Floaters dense enough to obscure vision may be due to vitreous haemorrhage. Floaters are occasionally found with uveitis

Zig-zag flashing lights affecting both eyes and often followed by headache is likely to be due to migraine.
