Trichiasis

Description

An in-turning of the eyelashes causing abrasion of the corneal surface. Generally due to scarring on the inner surface of the eyelids from eg previous infection, particularly trachoma, trauma or chronic inflammation of the eyelid margins (blepharitis)

Clinical Features

Gritty uncomfortable eyes
Foreign body sensation
Watering
Photophobia
Vision impaired in severe cases
