Myositis

Description

An inflammation of the muscles that move the eyes and lift the eyelids. Usually no identifiable cause.

Clinical Features

Acute attacks cause sudden onset of double vision, unilateral ptosis, pain, redness and swelling of the eyelids or conjunctiva.  Pain is worse on moving the eye.
May settle spontaneously, recur or become chronic.
