Episcleritis

Description

A common, benign inflammation of the layer of tissue between the conjunctiva and sclera

Usually self-limiting, may be recurrent
Usually no underlying cause identified

Clinical Features

Mild discomfort and tenderness
Red patch of inflamed blood vessels, occasionally diffuse
Watering

Management

Often none needed as resolves spontaneously in 1-2 weeks
Topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drops
See ophthalmologist if not settling
