Epiretinal membrane

Description

Also known as cellophane maculopathy, pre-retinal fibrosis, macula pucker
A sheet of scar tissue forms on the surface of the retina at the macula
Contraction leads to distortion of the retinal surface
Causes: often unknown, may follow retinal surgery or trauma, retinal vascular disorders such as retinal vein occlusion, intra-ocular inflammation

Clinical Features

Distorted vision
Reduction in visual acuity
Membrane visible on microscope examination
